Lenders look at several factors when evaluating a loan application. Credit history, length of time on job, and length of time at current residence are often used as predictors of risk. Another important predictor is the percentage of income required to cover housing and fixed expenses. If the percentage is too high, you may be unable to qualify for a loan, or may be asked to pay a significantly higher interest rate.
